Twenty Areas Nationwide Record Unhealthy API Readings, Sri Aman Highest at 195

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Twenty areas across Malaysia recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9 am today, with Sri Aman in Sarawak logging the country’s worst air quality at an API reading of 195.

Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal showed Sri Aman approaching the very unhealthy benchmark. Other locations in Sarawak experiencing unhealthy air quality included the Serian district police headquarters with a reading of 173, Sarikei at 153, Miri at 120, and Kuching at 114.

In the Klang Valley, three areas in Selangor recorded readings above 100, namely Johan Setia at 154, Shah Alam at 152, and Petaling Jaya at 130. Kuala Lumpur also registered unhealthy air levels, led by Cheras at 159 and Batu Muda at 152.

A similar trend was detected across northern and western states. In Penang, Seberang Perai recorded a reading of 157, followed by Minden at 156 and Seberang Jaya at 152, while Kedah reported affected areas in Sungai Petani at 152 and Alor Setar at 103. In Perak, Taiping registered 155, Tasek Ipoh recorded 137, and Seri Manjung reached 113, while Seremban in Negeri Sembilan logged a reading of 108.

Overall, 46 areas nationwide reported moderate air quality readings while one area maintained a good reading, with no locations entering the very unhealthy or hazardous levels as of this morning. Under the national index, API readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 hazardous.
