Over 17,000 Children Need Urgent Aid Following Devastating Nepal Flash Floods, Says UNICEF

UNICEF Nepal flash floods children urgent aid

GENEVA, Aug 28 — More than 17,000 children are in urgent need of humanitarian aid following severe flash floods in Nepal, according to a statement released by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday.

The agency confirmed that the devastating floods heavily impacted children across Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts after a glacier collapse and debris flow sent a massive torrent of water rushing into the Bhotekoshi River on Wednesday.

UNICEF warned that surviving children now face heightened risks of disease, malnutrition, violence, and exploitation as infrastructure and essential services in the affected districts remain severely compromised.

Meanwhile, the United Nations cautioned that the overall death toll from the disaster has reached 389, with casualty figures expected to climb further as search and rescue operations continue across the mountainous region.
