PUTRAJAYA, Oct 20 – The Registrar of Societies (RoS) officially cancelled the registration of opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after determining that the coalition’s written explanation failed to refute grounds for deregistration.
In a statement issued from Putrajaya, the RoS confirmed that the decision followed a thorough review of documents and representations submitted by PN leadership on October 12, 2026.
“In this regard, the Registrar of Societies has decided to cancel PN’s registration under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966,” the department stated, adding that the arguments presented provided no valid justification to preserve the coalition’s legal status.
Statutory Timeline and Bersatu Intra-Coalition Complaint
Key legal milestones and internal factors culminating in the deregistration order include:
- Statutory Notice Issued: On September 22, 2026, the RoS served a formal notice to PN under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966, providing a statutory window to present cause against cancellation.
- Coalition Explanation Received: PN submitted its formal response and representation paperwork to the RoS on October 12, 2026.
- Bersatu Legal Complaint: The deregistration proceedings stemmed from an official complaint lodged with the RoS on August 11, 2026, by component party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
- Exclusion Allegations: Bersatu’s complaint alleged unconstitutional exclusion from the PN Supreme Council meeting held on July 16, 2026, along with disputed membership status within the coalition hierarchy.
- Regulatory Enforcement: The RoS reiterated that all registered entities must strictly adhere to the Societies Act 1966 and their respective constitutions to maintain transparent and lawful governance.
The deregistration order alters the legal standing of the opposition coalition ahead of parliamentary proceedings.
