MELAKA, Oct 18 – The ongoing political crisis in Negeri Sembilan will not undermine Barisan Nasional’s (BN) ground readiness or campaign focus for the upcoming Melaka state election next month, UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan declared.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the 10th National Conference of Persatuan Solidariti Nasional (PerSoNa) on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Mohamad stressed that electoral victory depends strictly on tactical execution rather than internal distractions.
He emphasized that BN’s central and state election machineries must remain disciplined in translating high-level party strategies into maximum voter turnout on polling day.
“We can draw up an excellent strategy that looks very good on paper, with many voters identified or categorised as BN’s fixed supporters. But if we fail to get them to turn out to vote, it means nothing. Their votes will not be cast,” Mohamad warned.
Election Timeline, Machinery Mobilization, and Historical Context
Mohamad, who also serves as Foreign Minister, urged campaign teams across all constituencies to focus strictly on mobilization:
- Official Election Key Dates: The Election Commission (EC) has fixed nomination day for October 31, followed by early voting on November 10 and polling day on November 14, 2026.
- Execution Over Strategy: Party leadership reiterated that elaborate campaign blueprints and supporter categorizations remain ineffective unless grassroots workers ensure voters actually turn up at polling stations.
- Focus On Voter Mobilization: Machinery in every branch has been instructed to track verified supporters and facilitate smooth turnout throughout polling day.
- 2021 Election Track Record: In the previous Melaka state election held in 2021, BN secured a decisive two-thirds majority by winning 21 of the 28 state assembly seats to form the government, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) took two.
BN leadership maintains that its machinery in Melaka remains fully operational and primed to defend its supermajority as nomination day approaches.
