Anthony Loke to Proceed With Official China Visit Before Returning to Handle Resignation Process

KUALA LUMPUR — Transport Minister Anthony Loke will fulfill his scheduled official duties in China, where he is set to represent Malaysia at the 12th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Transportation Ministerial Meeting in Beijing taking place today and tomorrow.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) confirmed that Loke’s official itinerary in Beijing will encompass several bilateral meetings and the signing of two key memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Malaysia and China.

The first MoU establishes a framework for broad transport cooperation between the Government of Malaysia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, spanning the land, rail, maritime, aviation, and logistics sectors.

The second agreement, signed between the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), focuses on enhancing bilateral aviation safety cooperation. The ministry detailed that the CAAM-CAAC MoU covers critical areas including airworthiness, aviation organisation certification, personnel licensing, operational oversight, and the mutual recognition of findings and certificates of compliance.

Following the conclusion of his official duties in Beijing, Loke will travel to Shanghai to join Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official delegation. Upon completion of the Shanghai leg, he will return to Malaysia to manage matters concerning his resignation as Transport Minister.

Addressing continuity within the ministry, the MOT stated that it will continue to ensure that all ministry affairs and responsibilities are carried out as usual, in a professional and orderly manner.

The ministry’s announcement comes after Loke offered to step down from his cabinet position last Saturday, following the position taken by his party, the Democratic Action Party (DAP), regarding the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
