KUCHING, Nov 2 – Democratic Action Party (DAP) will field candidates in at least seven state seats across the Kuching and Bau divisions in the upcoming 13th Sarawak State Election, announced Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
Following a DAP state committee meeting on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Chong confirmed that the party will contest Padungan, Pending, Batu Kitang, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, Tasik Biru, and Opar.
Chong added that party leadership is also reviewing Batu Lintang as a potential eighth seat within the greater Kuching region.
“Our focus remains on bringing more voices into the State Legislative Assembly and ensuring stronger checks and balances for the people of Sarawak,” Chong stated in a social media update.
Decisions regarding seat allocations for DAP in other key urban and semi-urban zones—including Sibu, Sarikei, Bintulu, and Miri—will be finalized and announced within the next one to two weeks.
During the 12th Sarawak State Election in 2021, DAP secured only two victories out of 26 contested seats, retaining Padungan and Pending. The ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), won 76 out of 82 seats, while Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) won four.
The Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to convene a special meeting on Friday, November 6, 2026, to determine the official nomination, early voting, and polling dates for the Sarawak state polls.
