KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 – The Malaysian national men’s hockey team suffered a 2-4 defeat to host and defending champions India in their fourth round-robin fixture of the 2026 Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) at the Surjit Singh Olympian Hockey Stadium in Punjab on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Indian captain and penalty corner specialist Harmanpreet Singh led the hosts’ attack by scoring a hat-trick during the high-stakes encounter.
Harmanpreet opened the scoring in the third minute via a penalty corner strike. Malaysia responded quickly when Akhimullah Anuar Esook converted a penalty corner setup to equalize at 1-1.
India re-established control in the second half, with Harmanpreet scoring his second goal from a 33rd-minute penalty corner, before Sukhjeet Singh extended India’s lead to 3-1 in the 43rd minute.
Harmanpreet completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute by converting a penalty stroke, putting the match out of reach. Head coach Brendan Carolan’s squad managed a late consolation goal through a Shello Silverius field goal in the final minutes.
