One Dead, Two Injured in Three-Car Crash on Jalan Baru in Bukit Mertajam

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 26 — A man was killed and two others, including a pedestrian, were injured in a road accident involving three cars on Jalan Baru in Taman Pauh early today.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations John Sagun Francis stated that the department received a distress call at 2:31 am, with a rescue team arriving at the scene nine minutes later.

The crash involved a BMW, a Perodua Myvi, and a Proton Persona. However, both the Perodua Myvi and Proton Persona were stationary on the road shoulder when the collision occurred, and their respective drivers were not present at the location.

“Upon arrival at the scene, fire and rescue personnel found the BMW driver and a passenger trapped in the vehicle,” John said in a statement today.

“Firefighters managed to extricate the two trapped men at 3.22 am using special equipment, but the BMW driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical personnel,” he added.

The injured BMW passenger and the pedestrian were provided initial treatment at the scene by the medical team before being transported to Seberang Jaya Hospital for further medical attention.

The body of the deceased driver was also sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for further action.
