KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — A weak earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 was recorded in Temenggor, near Gerik, Perak, shortly after midnight today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the seismic event occurred at 12:06 am at coordinates 5.5 degrees North and 101.3 degrees East. The epicentre was identified nine kilometres northeast of Hulu Perak, Perak, at a focal depth of 10 kilometres.
MetMalaysia confirmed in a statement today that tremors were felt across the Gerik area, but clarified that no tsunami threat was issued following the quake.
Members of the public who felt the tremors are encouraged to complete the feedback questionnaire available on MetMalaysia’s official channels to assist in ongoing seismic assessments. The department added that it will continue to monitor the situation closely.
