NADMA to Conduct Cloud Seeding Operation Across Klang Valley to Combat Haze

NADMA cloud seeding haze Selangor KL Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — The government, through the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), will execute a two-day cloud seeding operation across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya beginning today to mitigate escalating haze conditions and improve regional air quality.

NADMA Director-General Datuk Meor Ismail Meor Akim stated that the joint operation is being carried out in strategic collaboration with the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), with an RMAF C-130 Hercules aircraft deployed as the primary asset.

The intervention was triggered after Air Pollutant Index (API) readings for fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the affected areas remained above the 150 unhealthy threshold for more than 24 hours, based on monitoring data from the Department of Environment.

“The cloud seeding operation is scheduled to be conducted on Sept 19 and 20, following Air Pollutant Index (API) readings for PM2.5 in the affected areas exceeding 150 for more than 24 hours, based on readings by the Department of Environment,” Meor Ismail said in a statement today. “However, the operation is subject to weather conditions and the presence of suitable clouds for the seeding process.”

He assured that NADMA and its partner agencies will maintain continuous monitoring of haze developments and prevailing weather patterns to coordinate further response measures as necessary.
