Prisons Department Officers Inspect Najib’s Residence Following House Arrest Pardon

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Officers from the Prisons Department were seen inspecting the grounds of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s residence in Langgak Duta today, amid developments following the announcement of his conditional pardon.

Two vehicles bearing the department’s logo entered the residence compound at approximately 9:40 am. Officers spent roughly 15 minutes inspecting the perimeter before leaving the site.

Media representatives gathered outside the residence attempted to obtain further details regarding the visit, but Najib’s special officer, Ahmad Lutfi Azhar, declined to comment when approached by reporters. The presence of prison officials attracted heightened media interest following yesterday’s decision regarding the modification of his sentence.

The inspection comes after His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to grant Najib a conditional pardon, permitting him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.

According to the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, the order was finalized during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya held at Istana Negara. The former Pekan Member of Parliament has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022.
