LANGKAWI, July 5 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) is targeting more than 500,000 citizens to benefit from services across 38 Wellness Hubs nationwide this year, as part of a concerted effort to strengthen disease prevention and promote healthy lifestyle practices. The ministry explained that this goal aligns with its long-term commitment to transform disease prevention into a strategic investment in national health through aggressive health promotion interventions and risk factor mitigation.
Utilizing an approach anchored in Behavioural Insights (BI) and the strategic empowerment of health literacy, the ministry noted that these hubs have successfully guided the public toward healthier lifestyle choices through targeted interventions. Comprehensive data tracking the effectiveness of these services from 2020 to 2025 recorded a total of 1,660,488 clients who have benefited from the various service packages offered at the Wellness Hubs.
“Out of 15,027 clients who participated in the six-month weight management intervention, 11,282 people or 75 per cent successfully lost weight, while 11,455 people or 76 per cent successfully improved their fitness levels,” the MOH revealed in an official statement issued today.
The ministry further reported that from January to May this year alone, a total of 335,930 clients have visited the operational Wellness Hubs nationwide. To better meet public demand and expand accessibility, the ministry is currently evaluating the implementation of more flexible operating hours, including expanding services to after office hours and during weekends.
In a parallel public health development today, the MOH officially launched the MyLLSNet Application for the ‘1000 Days of Life: Longitudinal Study in Langkawi (LLS)’, an initiative officiated by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. The LLS is a high-impact birth cohort study spearheaded by the Institute of Public Health, in close collaboration with the Langkawi district health office and Sultanah Maliha Hospital. This strategic research project aims to identify critical environmental and physiological factors that influence children’s growth during their first 1,000 days of life, spanning from the early stages of pregnancy until the child reaches two years of age.
