PUTRAJAYA, Aug 14 — Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) Director-General Datuk Dr Roslan Hussin has called on enforcement authorities to take decisive legal action against individuals and entities that disrespect the Jalur Gemilang, insisting that the national flag’s dignity must be safeguarded at all costs.

Urging authorities to scrutinise all cases of non-compliance—ranging from improper hoisting and upside-down installations to substandard flag displays—Roslan stressed that strict application of existing laws is necessary to halt recurring offences.

“We cannot let this slide. If we can fine people for littering, we can certainly take action when someone mishandles our national symbol,” Roslan told reporters following the Aku Kasih Malaysia: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati programme today.

Roslan emphasized that thorough investigation and legal accountability are the most effective deterrents against repeated disrespect toward the national emblem.

“Examine each case thoroughly. Take legal action where needed. Do not let it happen again,” he added.

Highlighting the symbolic importance of the national flag, Roslan stated that the Jalur Gemilang represents the ultimate symbol of national sovereignty and pride, demanding respect from all citizens regardless of rank or position.

“Every Malaysian, whether a public servant or not, must recognise that our national emblem should be properly respected. That is our dignity,” Roslan said.

He noted that legal enforcement must work in tandem with AKM’s broader educational mandate to foster patriotism and civic responsibility across society. AKM will continue advancing its civic education framework to deepen public awareness regarding statehood and the proper handling of national symbols.

“We strongly urge all parties to give this matter the serious attention it deserves,” Roslan concluded.
