PUTRAJAYA, Aug 23 — Malaysia and Pakistan exchanged key diplomatic experiences in conflict resolution during a meeting between Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
The bilateral meeting took place at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi during Saifuddin’s official visit to Pakistan.
Saifuddin said the engagement provided a platform for both nations to exchange perspectives on regional and international security developments, focusing on diplomatic avenues and peace-building mechanisms to navigate geopolitical tensions.
During the discussion, Field Marshal Syed Asim detailed Pakistan’s role in facilitating peace talks between the United States and Iran to resolve the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. In turn, Saifuddin highlighted Malaysia’s diplomatic contributions in mediating talks between Thailand and Cambodia, which successfully culminated in a ceasefire agreement.
“Pakistan is widely known to have played an important role in facilitating negotiations between the United States and Iran in resolving the crisis related to the Strait of Hormuz. During the meeting, Syed Asim shared Pakistan’s experience in facilitating peace talks,” Saifuddin stated in a Facebook post today.
“I shared Malaysia’s experience in facilitating negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia, which eventually led to a ceasefire agreement,” he added.
Saifuddin noted that despite facing distinct geopolitical challenges, both nations’ experiences underscore that diplomacy, constructive dialogue, and confidence-building remain the most reliable foundations for de-escalating tensions and securing peaceful resolutions.
