Fahmi Invites Sarawak Governor to Malaysia Day 2026 Celebration in Kuching

Fahmi Fadzil Sarawak Governor Malaysia Day invitation

KUCHING, Sept 15 — Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil today paid a courtesy call on Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar to extend an official invitation to the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tomorrow night.

Fahmi said the meeting at Astana Negeri Sarawak also provided an opportunity to brief Wan Junaidi on the final technical preparations for the main event, which is scheduled to run from 8:15 pm to 10:30 pm.

“Alhamdulillah, the courtesy call went very well. Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and I presented the invitation to Tun for tomorrow’s celebration. All preparations are progressing well. There are a few technical aspects that will be fine-tuned and, insya-Allah, the event will run smoothly,” Fahmi told reporters following the courtesy call.

Also present during the meeting were Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah—who serves as Minister-in-Charge of the celebration—and Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah.

Fahmi noted that during the hour-long session, Wan Junaidi shared insights from his past career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The minister also updated the Governor on an upcoming special publication about him by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), alongside supplementary events including a thanksgiving ceremony at the State Mosque and a Malaysia Day exhibition by the Information Department.

About 5,000 visitors are expected to gather at BCCK for tomorrow night’s celebration. Governor Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, are slated to attend alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
