Government Working to Locate 54 Uncontactable Malaysians After Nepal Flash Floods, Says PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed deep concern and sadness over the devastating flash floods that struck the Rasuwa district in Nepal, confirming that the Malaysian government is actively working to locate 54 Malaysian citizens who remain uncontactable.

Anwar stated that the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is working closely with Nepalese authorities and relevant rescue agencies to ascertain the status of the affected citizens. In addition, officers from the Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, are being mobilised to reinforce ground coordination and support search efforts.

In a Facebook post today, the Prime Minister shared his grave concern after receiving updates from the Foreign Ministry regarding the rising number of uncontactable nationals following the disaster.

“I was deeply concerned when informed by the Foreign Ministry that 54 Malaysians remain uncontactable so far, and efforts to locate them and obtain updates on their condition are being actively pursued,” Anwar said.

He reaffirmed that the MADANI Government, through the Foreign Ministry, will continue to closely monitor the evolving situation and deploy all necessary resources to prioritize the safety and welfare of affected Malaysians. Anwar also called on the public to unite in prayer for the safe return of all stranded citizens and for the smooth execution of search and rescue operations.

Media reports indicate that the flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border were triggered by heavy rainfall and glacier landslides along the Bhote Koshi River. The disaster has severely disrupted regional communication networks and severed the primary road connecting Rasuwa to the capital city of Kathmandu, creating severe logistics and communication challenges in the affected zones.
