Masjidil Haram Muazzin Sheikh Ibrahim Al Madani Passes Away at 51

MAKKAH, Sept 21 – Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Al Madani, one of the 24 principal muazzins at Makkah’s Grand Mosque (Masjidil Haram), has passed away on Monday at the age of 51.

News of his passing was confirmed by Saudi Arabian news portal Okaz, following social media posts by several officials of the Two Holy Mosques’ administration and followers of the Grand Mosque’s call to prayer.

Tributes poured in across social media platforms, where users shared audio and video recordings of Sheikh Ibrahim’s distinctive voice delivering the azan and takbir at Masjidil Haram. Hashtags bearing his name also trended as Muslims worldwide paid homage to his service.

Sheikh Ibrahim served as one of 24 principal muazzins appointed at Masjidil Haram, six of whom take turns delivering the call to prayer for the five daily obligatory prayers, as well as the first call to prayer before dawn. He was particularly known for his recitation of the dawn call to prayer and takbir.

In addition to calling the azan, Sheikh Ibrahim regularly performed the vital role of tabligh, relaying and amplifying the imam’s voice from the mosque’s mukabariya (call-to-prayer room) so that congregation members across the vast mosque complex could follow the prayers seamlessly.

Saudi authorities and official administrative channels have not released a specific cause of death.
