KUALA LUMPUR, 21 Sept – Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has not yet paid the RM50 million fine mandated as a key condition to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed that the settlement must be processed through the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar’s Office, where the original case was heard and filed.
“As of now, Datuk Seri Najib’s family has not paid the fine. Once payment is made, I cannot say exactly when Datuk Seri Najib will be brought home, as the process may take some time,” Mohd Dusuki stated when contacted by the media.
The Attorney-General added that the precise standard operating procedures governing the home detention arrangement will be formulated and issued by the Malaysian Prison Department.
The development follows a decision on Sept 18 by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to complete the rest of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028. However, the execution of the royal order remains contingent upon the full payment of the RM50 million fine alongside adherence to specified conditions.
Najib, 73, has been serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd. A check at the Kajang Prison premises showed no unusual activity involving the former Pekan Member of Parliament as the fine remains unsettled.
