KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Police fired several shots before arresting a 29-year-old wanted man following a 30-minute high-speed pursuit in Sri Petaling this morning, after a vehicle carrying suspected stolen cables attempted to ram officers during an inspection.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that members of the Bukit Aman KESAS Highway Traffic Police were conducting routine patrols around 9:30 am when they spotted a green Ford Ranger being driven suspiciously. When officers signaled the driver to pull over near the Awan Besar Toll Plaza, the vehicle sped off toward Klang (Barat), prompting a chase that ended near a petrol station in Sungai Besi.
Upon stopping, the driver refused to cooperate and attempted to ram the police personnel, forcing officers to fire several shots in self-defense. The vehicle then fled into Jalan Hang Tuah 4, Sri Petaling, where the driver lost control and crashed into a grey Mazda.
Police immediately apprehended the 29-year-old male passenger at the scene, while the driver managed to flee on foot. A search of the Ford Ranger yielded stolen cables and tools believed to have been used in cable theft operations. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Background checks revealed that the arrested suspect possesses 37 previous criminal records and was listed as a wanted individual. Police are actively tracking down the remaining suspect.
The case is being investigated under Sections 307, 427, and 379 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, mischief, and theft, as well as Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with a remand application scheduled for tomorrow under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
