PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 — Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) has strongly condemned the vandalism and burning of a mosque in Golbazar, Siraha, Nepal, while calling on the public to demonstrate empathy and compassion toward flood victims in the country.
YADIM President Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom stated today that the incident, which resulted in the destruction of copies of the Quran and sacred hadith materials, directly contradicts fundamental human values, peace, and social harmony. He emphasized that religious freedom should never be used as a pretext to desecrate places of worship or insult any faith, maintaining that differences between communities must be resolved through constructive dialogue and legal channels rather than provocation or violence.
“The act of burning the Quran, vandalising mosques and desecrating houses of worship is inappropriate in a civilised society as it contradicts the values of humanity, peace and harmony,” Hasan said in a statement.
In addition, Hasan urged the public not to mock or celebrate the suffering of flood victims in Nepal, stressing that compassion, empathy, and humanitarian aid must be offered to those in need regardless of their religious or cultural background.
He noted that this principles-first approach reflects the spirit of Malaysia MADANI and the MADANI Membantu initiative under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan.
YADIM also urged Nepalese authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident while offering prayers for lasting peace and protection for all affected communities in Nepal.
