KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) will hold a Solat Hajat (special prayer of needs) tonight at three major mosques under its supervision following the haze currently affecting several states.

JAKIM Director-General Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee stated that the special prayers will take place after Maghrib prayers at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Putra Mosque and Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque in Putrajaya.

Dr Sirajuddin urged Muslims across the country to join in prayer for protection, health, safety, and peace during this environmental challenge.

“May Allah SWT protect all Malaysians from any harm, safeguard our health and safety and restore conditions in affected areas,” he said in a statement today.

He noted that the Solat Hajat aligns with a decree by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, urging all Malaysians to pray for the well-being of those impacted, alongside a similar call by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

As of 8:00 am today, 17 areas across six states—Sarawak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka, and Perak—as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.
