KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has set up a special task force to review and re-examine corruption allegations amounting to RM350,000 linked to one of its senior officers.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed that the decision to form the internal review team was issued immediately following public calls and a resurfacing of the allegations across social media platforms.
“This step is taken to ensure that the MACC’s integrity remains preserved and public confidence in the anti-corruption institution is not compromised,” Abd Halim said in an official statement on Saturday night, October 10, 2026.
Allegation Background, Case History, and Public Calls
The anti-graft agency clarified the history of the case while cautioning the public against spreading unverified reports:
- 2018 Case History: The MACC noted that the corruption allegation had previously been subjected to an internal investigation in 2018, with the case file subsequently closed after no criminal wrongdoing was proven.
- Call for Action by MCW: Malaysian Corruption Watch (MCW) President Jais Abdul Karim had earlier urged the MACC and the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) to address the resurfaced claims, which stem from an alleged incident on November 13, 2017, that went viral on social media.
- Institutional Integrity: The MACC reiterated that it will not compromise on matters threatening the agency’s credibility or public trust.
- Warning Against Speculation: The commission advised members of the public and online users to refrain from speculation or distributing unverified claims regarding the ongoing review.
