Budget 2027 allocates RM460M for national sports development and RM240M to prepare Malaysia for hosting the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 – The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the National Sports Council (NSC) have welcomed the allocation of RM460 million under Budget 2027 to strengthen Malaysia’s national sports development ecosystem.

Announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the funding will support high-performance sports, the Road to Gold (RTG) programme, para-athletes, deaf sports, and sports facility maintenance across the country.

In an official statement released on Saturday, October 10, 2026, KBS emphasized that the comprehensive financial backing ensures continuous and systematic athlete development from grass-root levels to elite international competitions.

Key Allocations, Host Preparations, and Youth Incentives

The budget breakdown details major funding streams for major sporting events, youth training, and grassroots community participation:

  • 2027 SEA Games & ASEAN Para Games: An RM240 million allocation is dedicated to Malaysia’s preparations to host both the 2027 SEA Games and the 2027 ASEAN Para Games, ensuring facility readiness and high-performance training for home-ground athletes.
  • Sports Matching Grant: An allocation of RM30 million will be provided through the Sports Matching Grant to encourage sports associations, clubs, and non-governmental organizations to host high-performance sporting events.
  • Budi Belia Youth E-Wallet: Under the youth development agenda, the new Budi Belia programme will offer a RM100 e-wallet incentive to young citizens who complete community volunteer activities.
  • TVET & Skill Enhancement: An RM8 billion allocation for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across various ministries will support skill development and career prospects via the Youth and Sports Skills Training Institute (ILKBS).
  • School Sports Expansion: Funding for school sports activities has increased by 50 per cent to RM27 million, directly benefiting over 4.6 million students across approximately 10,000 schools nationwide.
  • Lifestyle Tax Relief: Individual tax relief for sports equipment purchases, including running and sports shoes, has been expanded to cultivate active lifestyle habits among the general public.

NSC Director-General Jefri Ngadirin noted that the strategic funding balances elite athlete preparation—covering sports science, medicine, and international competition exposure—with systematic talent identification to build sustainable success for Malaysian sports.
