Zahid to Convene Special Meeting Tonight to Resolve Negeri Sembilan Political Crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will hold a special meeting tonight with assemblymen from the governing coalition in Negeri Sembilan to seek a resolution to the ongoing state political crisis.

Speaking at a press conference after officiating the 18th annual general assembly of the Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party at Menara Dato’ Onn today, Zahid confirmed that the meeting will bring together representatives from BN, PAS, and Parti Wawasan Negara to align strategies in accordance with the state constitution and customary laws.

“It is to enable me to coordinate efforts, without any intention of interfering, but to find the best solution to the crisis currently being faced in Negeri Sembilan,” Zahid stated.

Zahid, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, emphasized that any resolution must prioritize public interest and adhere strictly to the standing orders of the state legislative assembly, the state constitution, and Adat Perpatih (customary law). He gave a full mandate to Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim to engage key stakeholders, including the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the Undang Yang Empat, and Tunku Besar Tampin.

Addressing calls regarding a potential declaration of a political emergency, the UMNO president dismissed the notion, confirming that peace, security, and public order in the state remain fully intact.

“I do not think it should head in that direction because there has been no disturbance to peace and security in Negeri Sembilan, and there is no need to even consider such a step,” he added. “There are certainly better options.”

The event was also attended by Makkal Sakti President Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran.
