KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — A signalling system disruption between Kalumpang and Kuala Kubu Bharu yesterday caused severe delays of up to five hours for KTM Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) operations.
In a statement today, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) reported that the worst-affected commuter train, KTM Komuter No. 2389, experienced a delay of 230 minutes, while ETS service EP9138 running from KL Sentral to Butterworth was delayed by 305 minutes.
According to KTMB, preliminary investigations traced the fault to a damaged system component that sparked, disrupting the signalling network. The root cause of the component failure remains under investigation.
“The signalling system disruption had a knock-on effect on the movement and schedules of other trains passing through the sector, particularly services to and from the north,” KTMB stated.
The national rail operator noted that ongoing phase-by-phase Rawang–Ipoh Double Tracking upgrade works along the Kalumpang stretch further restricted train movements, compounding delays across several affected routes.
KTMB confirmed that repair teams completed restoration works at 5:15 am today, enabling the first Komuter train from Tanjung Malim to depart at 5:45 am. While train operations have largely returned to normal, residual delays of approximately 30 minutes persist along the Batang Kali sector due to the signalling fault.
Apologising for the inconvenience caused, KTMB announced that full fare refunds will be provided to passengers who chose not to proceed with their journeys following the disruption, subject to standard company procedures.
