Wisma Putra Seeking Verification on Reports Surrounding Nepal Flash Flood Group

Wisma Putra Nepal flash floods verification

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 — The Embassy of Malaysia in Kathmandu is actively seeking verification from Nepalese authorities regarding reports concerning an individual associated with a group affected by recent flash floods in Nepal, Wisma Putra said today.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that it will not speculate on media reports while the official verification process remains ongoing. Wisma Putra stressed that its priority is to ensure accurate and verified information is conveyed directly to the next of kin before making any public announcements.

“The ministry continues to prioritise providing verified information on individual cases directly to the next of kin. Any development appropriate for public release will be communicated once the relevant information has been verified,” the ministry stated.

The ministry also urged members of the media to allow the verification process to proceed unimpeded and to respect the privacy of the affected families during this period.

The statement follows local media reports on Monday that a body, believed to be a Nepalese citizen who was part of a group traveling with 23 Malaysians, was recovered in Trishuli on Sunday—approximately 80 kilometres from the group’s last known location.
