ISTANBUL, Sept 28 – US President Donald Trump hosted Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for a private one-on-one dinner at the White House on Sunday night to discuss the future of artificial intelligence (AI) development.
Speaking to reporters aboard Marine One ahead of the meeting, Trump confirmed the sit-down and described Amodei as “very highly respected”.
The private dinner precedes a scheduled high-level meeting on Tuesday between Trump, US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson, and leading AI industry executives to discuss sector governance and legislative oversight.
“President Trump has been clear: America will lead the world in super intelligence while protecting American consumers,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement. “We will drive innovation, strengthen American competitiveness, and ensure this transformative technology works for the American people.”
The meeting follows ongoing national debate regarding AI safety regulations and technological competition. While industry figures, including Amodei, have advocated for safety frameworks and measured development, the Trump administration has consistently emphasized maintaining US leadership over global competitors, particularly China, while expanding infrastructure and investment in the sector.
