DOHA, Aug 4 — Qatar has called for enhanced coordination among Gulf nations to implement the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, following high-level diplomatic outreach by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani with his counterparts across the region.
According to a statement released by Qatar’s Foreign Ministry on Monday, Sheikh Mohammed held separate discussions with foreign ministers from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain to discuss regional security, de-escalation strategies, and multilateral cooperation.
During the consultations, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement and adherence to the provisions outlined in the US-Iran agreement. He specifically highlighted the necessity of guaranteeing freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to safeguard regional security, preserve recent diplomatic progress, and bolster long-term stability.
Reaffirming Doha’s commitment to regional mediation, the Qatari Prime Minister reiterated full support for efforts aimed at reducing military tensions and establishing a comprehensive peace framework across the Middle East.
The diplomatic push comes amid heightened instability in the region following military exchanges between the United States, Israel, and Iran earlier this year. Although a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding was signed in June following an initial April ceasefire, the agreement faced major disruptions last month following a two-week resurgence in military strikes before diplomatic talks resumed.
