Prisons Department Ready to Execute Official Directives on Najib’s Conditional Pardon

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — The Malaysian Prisons Department stands ready to execute any official directives regarding the Federal Territories Pardons Board’s decision on the conditional pardon for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

In a statement issued today, the department confirmed that all formal notifications and legal documentation pertaining to the decision of the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya will be transmitted through established official channels prior to execution.

“The Malaysian Prisons Department is always ready to implement any official instructions received from the relevant authorities, in accordance with the provisions of the law, prison regulations as well as rules and procedures currently in force,” the statement read.

The department emphasized that it will execute all incoming orders in an orderly, professional, and integrity-driven manner, strictly adhering to relevant statutory provisions and official rulings. It also cautioned members of the public and media against engaging in speculation regarding the practical implementation of the pardon decision, urging reliance solely on official sources.

The statement follows remarks made yesterday by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who noted that the Prisons Department was still awaiting formal written notification. Saifuddin stated that the department needs to thoroughly review the official document once received to ensure that all administrative steps align with existing legal frameworks.

According to an earlier statement by the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to grant Najib a conditional pardon permitting him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
