WASHINGTON, Sept 20 — The average price of diesel fuel in the United States has reached a new record high, surpassing $6.48 per gallon (approximately 3.8 litres), according to latest data from the American Automobile Association (AAA).
The price increase reflects a rise of roughly four cents within a single day and nearly eight cents over the course of the week. The current cost marks a substantial increase compared to the same period last year, when a gallon of diesel fuel cost nearly half as much at around US$3.70.
Across the nation, California reported the highest rates in the country, with diesel fuel reaching US$8.42 per gallon. Industry analysts emphasize that surging diesel costs have a direct compounding effect on the overall price of goods, as the fuel powers essential agricultural machinery and heavy-duty freight trucks across supply chains.
