IPOH, Sept 20 — An elderly couple and their 18-year-old grandson were killed in a pre-dawn fire that engulfed a two-storey terraced house in Taman Desa Tambun today.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Sayani Saidon said emergency responders received a distress call at 4:00 am before teams from the Tambun and Ipoh fire stations were rushed to the scene along Persiaran Desa Tambun 4.
The deceased have been identified as Raja Ahmad Raja Ali, 70, his wife Zaitun Mohamed, 64, and their grandson Nik Abdurrahman Azimin Harith Helal, 18. A fourth occupant, 47-year-old Raja Ikhwan Hadi Raja Ahmad, survived the tragedy after he was believed to have been sleeping in the house’s parking area.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire and rescue vehicles found that a Class A two-storey terraced house measuring 20 by 70 feet was on fire, with about 70 per cent of the house affected,” Sayani said in a statement today.
Firefighters found the 70-year-old man in a bathroom on the ground floor, while the remaining two victims were located on the upper floor of the residence. One victim was discovered in an upstairs bathroom, and another was found inside a bedroom positioned near a window.
Authorities confirmed that while six related individuals lived in the residence, only four were inside when the blaze erupted. Firefighting operations were fully concluded by 8:00 am, and all three victims were handed over to the police for further action.
