PH, BN Expected to Finalise Melaka Election Cooperation Before Malaysia Day, Says Amirudin

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) are expected to decide on the direction of their electoral cooperation for the Melaka state election before Malaysia Day on Sept 16, according to PKR Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, stated that discussions between the two coalitions remain at an early stage, noting that any final decision will require formal approval from both PH and PKR leadership.

Speaking to reporters here today, Amirudin revealed that another round of discussions is scheduled for this week to assess the progress of negotiations.

“I think before Malaysia Day, we may have a clearer picture of how we will move forward in facing the Melaka state election,” he said.

“We are still at the preliminary exploratory stage and cannot make a decision yet. But I will also need to report back to PH and PKR before any agreement can be finalised,” he added.

Amirudin noted that PH and BN will draw on their past experiences of both partnering and competing against each other in previous state elections to establish the most effective approach for Melaka.

He highlighted that while the two coalitions have worked together in state elections and collaborated closely in Sabah, they have also competed directly against one another in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. He expressed confidence that these combined experiences would help secure an outcome beneficial to all parties.

His comments follow statements made yesterday by PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who affirmed that the coalition is adhering to its own timeline and schedule regarding preparations for the Melaka state election.
