Cabinet Gives In-Principle Approval for Bandar Malaysia-Seri Kembangan Elevated Expressway

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — The Cabinet has approved in principle the proposed development of the Bandar Malaysia-Seri Kembangan Elevated Expressway (BSE), according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In a statement today, Nanta said the decision reflects the MADANI Government’s commitment to delivering high-impact infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing national competitiveness, spurring economic growth, and improving public transportation networks.

The proposed BSE is designed as a strategic, high-capacity link to elevate connectivity across the Greater Kuala Lumpur area. The alignment will integrate several major highway networks, including the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, Maju Expressway (MEX), Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), and the SPRINT highway network.

“The development of an elevated highway along this strategic alignment has the potential to provide an alternative route for motorists and facilitate movement between the northern, southern and east coast corridors of Peninsular Malaysia,” Nanta said.

He noted that from a public well-being standpoint, the BSE would reduce travel times and improve access to key employment centers, educational institutions, and public services, while bolstering overall logistics efficiency.

Nanta emphasized that the BSE will be guided by a private-sector financing model, ensuring its implementation will not involve direct financial commitments from the Federal Government.

Following the in-principle approval, the Ministry of Works alongside the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) will conduct negotiations and detailed assessments to finalize the implementation structure. He assured that all aspects of the project will be thoroughly evaluated to guarantee value for money, public interest, and fiscal sustainability before final decisions are executed.

Additionally, the government will selectively examine other infrastructure proposals to complete road networks and mitigate traffic congestion across the Klang Valley based on strategic necessity and traffic flow impact.
