No ‘Hazardous’ Air Quality Recorded Nationwide, Samarahan Sole Area at ‘Very Unhealthy’ Level

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — No monitoring stations in Malaysia recorded “hazardous” Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8 am today, though Samarahan in Sarawak remains the sole location in the country registering a “very unhealthy” air quality level at 226.

According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, 40 areas nationwide recorded “unhealthy” API readings, while 24 areas registered “moderate” air quality and two stations reported “good” levels.

Sarawak remained the most severely affected state, with 11 monitoring stations registering unhealthy readings. These include Sarikei (194), IPD Serian (193), Kuching (192), Sibu (183), Sri Aman (183), Mukah (182), Samalaju (179), Bintulu (172), Miri Industrial Training Institute (169), Miri (166), and Limbang (149).

In the Klang Valley and central federal territories, six areas in Selangor recorded unhealthy levels, led by Johan Setia at 184, Shah Alam (166), Petaling Jaya (158), Klang (158), Banting (158), and Kuala Selangor (157). In Kuala Lumpur, Batu Muda recorded 163 and Cheras registered 160, while Putrajaya and the Federal Territory of Labuan recorded 163 and 157 respectively.

Unhealthy air conditions were also reported across several other states. In Perak, five locations registered elevated API levels, including Tanjung Malim (160), Seri Manjung (159), Tasek Ipoh (156), Pegoh Ipoh (152), and Taiping (132). In Negeri Sembilan, Nilai recorded 166, Seremban (164), and Port Dickson (125), while Pahang reported unhealthy readings in Temerloh (153) and Jerantut (140).

In southern Peninsular Malaysia, Johor recorded unhealthy air quality in Segamat (157), Batu Pahat (157), Tangkak (154), and Kluang (151), alongside Melaka’s Alor Gajah (154), Bukit Rambai (154), and Bandaraya Melaka (111). In Sabah, Kota Kinabalu and Kimanis both registered readings of 153.
