IPOH, Oct 17 – A 31-year-old driver narrowly escaped injury on Saturday morning, October 17, 2026, when a massive branch broke off from an aging tree and fell directly onto his Perodua Myvi in front of the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) office in Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

According to Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the department received an emergency distress call regarding the incident at 8:57 AM.

Seven personnel from the Kuala Kangsar Fire and Rescue Station were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist.

The motorist managed to exit the damaged vehicle unharmed prior to the arrival of the emergency rescue team.

“Preliminary investigations found that a branch from a tree believed to be more than 50 years old had become brittle and fallen onto the car. No heavy rain or storm was reported at the time of the incident,” Sabarodzi confirmed.

Brittle 50-Year-Old Tree Branch Prompted Rapid Clearance Operation

Emergency services acted swiftly to clear the roadway and secure the vehicle:

  • Location of Incident: The falling branch struck the car directly in front of the Kuala Kangsar TNB office premises along the main thoroughfare.
  • Driver Status: The 31-year-old owner of the Perodua Myvi escaped without physical injury and was able to self-evacuate from the car.
  • Cause of Failure: JBPM officials determined the primary cause to be natural timber degradation in a tree estimated to be over five decades old, noting that clear weather prevailed when the branch snapped.
  • Firefighters’ Intervention: Rescue personnel utilized chainsaws to cut up and remove the heavy branch, fully concluding operations and restoring clear access by 9:20 AM.

Local authorities have periodically advised local councils to inspect mature roadside trees to prevent similar spontaneous branch breakages during calm weather.
