KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 – The 2027 academic calendar for national and government-aided schools across Malaysia will commence on January 4, according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The 2027 school session will run from January 4 to December 2 for schools in Group A states, and until December 3 for schools in Group B states.
Under the MOE classification:
- Group A: Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
- Group B: Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
Standardized Festive Holidays and 2028 Session Alignment
The ministry has coordinated all primary festive holiday dates for the 2027 academic year, covering Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali, Hari Raya Korban, Kaamatan Festival, Gawai Dayak, Wesak Day, and Christmas.
“All schools must comply with the additional holiday provisions set by MOE in conjunction with Hari Raya Puasa, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Korban, Wesak Day and Deepavali, with the additional holidays not required to be replaced,” the ministry stated.
Furthermore, the MOE announced that the 2028 school session will start on January 3, 2028, for both Group A and Group B states nationwide. The synchronization is designed to facilitate orderly administrative planning and improve the operational efficiency of teaching and learning activities across all schools.
