SUBANG, Aug 13 — Malaysian law enforcement investigators have been granted official access by Indonesian authorities to question a 39-year-old Malaysian pilot detained in Jakarta drug case, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced today.
Saifuddin stated that this operational breakthrough will allow Malaysian authorities to advance their investigation, although proceedings remain in their preliminary stages.
The pilot was arrested last month by Indonesian law enforcement at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after allegedly attempting to smuggle 25 kilogrammes of illegal drugs.
The Home Minister confirmed he had received a full briefing on the cross-border probe from Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
“It is still ongoing. Let them complete the process first, and I will also share any new developments from the investigation later,” Saifuddin told reporters during a press conference here today.
In a related security development, Saifuddin revealed that a comprehensive inter-agency plan designed to reinforce security controls across national airports is scheduled for presentation to the Cabinet next Wednesday.
The minister was briefed on the blueprint by Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Dr Awang Alik Jeman, who chaired an inter-agency task force to finalize the enhanced security protocols.
“I gave them two weeks from last week to finalise the plan. Barring any changes, I will present it at the next Cabinet meeting together with the Transport Minister,” Saifuddin explained.
