KUCHING, Aug 13 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing involving corruption or misappropriation in its ongoing investigation into Retirement Fund Incorporated’s (KWAP) RM163.4 million investment in Indonesian aquaculture startup eFishery, Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said today.
Speaking at a press conference here, Abd Halim clarified that while initial findings indicate no graft, full conclusions can only be drawn once investigators receive financial records and documentation from overseas banking institutions, particularly in Singapore and Indonesia.
“To date, 19 individuals have been called to assist in the investigation and have had their statements recorded. They include officers from KWAP, the Finance Ministry and Khazanah,” Abd Halim stated.
“No arrests have been made as we have not found it necessary to do so at this stage. However, the investigation is still ongoing,” he added.
The chief commissioner noted that MACC investigators are also working to secure statements from identified key witnesses who are currently based overseas.
“It can be reported that the domestic investigation is almost complete. We are now awaiting procedures to obtain Mutual Legal Assistance from several countries,” Abd Halim said.
“There should be no issue about the process, but it may take some time as certain legal procedures must be followed,” he added.
