MACC Detains Seven Individuals in Tabung Haji RCI Probe, Including Four Ex-Senior Executives and Corporate Chiefs

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained seven individuals, including four former senior management members of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) and corporate executives, to assist in ongoing investigations arising from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the pilgrimage fund.

The suspects—comprising a shipping company chief executive officer, a construction firm director, a former company director, and four former senior TH executives—were taken into custody separately between 3:00 pm and 10:30 pm yesterday at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

According to sources, the first suspect, a shipping company CEO in his 60s holding a “Datuk” title, was arrested on suspicion of submitting documents containing false details during payment transactions with TH. The offense allegedly involved falsifying a petroleum company contract to benefit his own firm.

The second suspect, a construction company director in his 60s also holding a “Datuk” title, is accused of deceiving TH officers into investing in his construction firm by falsely promising that the company possessed strong potential for a listing on Bursa Malaysia.

A third suspect, a former company director in his 60s with a “Datuk Seri” title, was apprehended for his alleged involvement in the same investment scheme alongside the construction director.

Meanwhile, four former senior members of TH’s management—aged between 50 and 60, including a woman and an executive holding a “Datuk Seri” title—were arrested over alleged corrupt practices surrounding a major international transaction. The group is suspected of facilitating a hotel lease agreement in Saudi Arabia valued at SR2.49 billion (Saudi Riyals), which subsequently resulted in substantial financial losses for the pilgrimage fund.

Of the seven individuals detained, only the shipping company CEO and the construction company director were remanded for further questioning, while the remaining five suspects were released on MACC bail due to health considerations.

Magistrate Ahmad Afiq Hasan granted a five-day remand order extending until August 19 for the two corporate figures following an application by MACC prosecutors at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court this morning.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests when contacted, stating that the case is being actively investigated under Sections 18 and 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
