KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a former minister in his 60s to assist in ongoing investigations into issues raised in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
The suspect was arrested at approximately 4:30 pm today after arriving at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to record his statement. According to a post on the anti-graft agency’s TikTok account, the detention is linked to an investigation involving a hotel lease agreement in Saudi Arabia.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. He added that officers will bring the suspect to the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning to obtain a remand order.
The detention follows statements made on Saturday (Aug 29) by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who affirmed that investigations into the findings of the Tabung Haji RCI report would continue to ensure the nation does not suffer further financial losses.
