Family Killed in 11-Vehicle LPT Crash Were Returning from National Day Celebrations

TEMERLOH, Sept 1 — The three family members who perished in an 11-vehicle pile-up at KM110.3 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT1) near Lanchang last night were returning home after celebrating National Day in Putrajaya.

The victims, who were travelling in a Proton S70, have been identified as Muhammad Nazatul Nazmi, 32, his wife Nur Atiqah Sofiya Mohd Kazwan, 32, and their four-year-old son, Muhammad Armaan Nazeef.

Speaking to reporters at the Forensic Medical Unit of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) today, Nur Atiqah’s father, Mohd Kazwan Mohd Kassim, 59, shared that it was the couple’s first time travelling to Putrajaya to join the National Day festivities. He learned of the tragedy at around 7:50 am after recognizing his daughter’s vehicle in social media posts covering the crash before receiving official confirmation.

“I saw the news and a post on Facebook about the accident. I said to myself, I hope it is not my daughter because the S70 looked like her car, but I never expected to receive a call confirming that it was indeed my daughter,” Mohd Kazwan said.

The victim’s cousin, Nur Awatif Adawiyah Abdul Aziz, 30, noted that Nur Atiqah had shared photos of their family trip in their family WhatsApp group and uploaded them to her Instagram Story shortly before the crash, which family members now cherish as their final memories together.

Funeral prayers for the family will be held at Masjid Kampung Paya Luas before they are laid to rest at the Setali Muslim Cemetery in Kuantan.

Acting Pahang Police Chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob confirmed that the fourth fatality in the multi-vehicle collision was 55-year-old Seow Beng Wain from Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, who was a passenger in a Honda CR-V involved in the crash.
