KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Former Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan has confirmed that he will be charged in the Sessions Court here tomorrow in connection with an investigation into the recruitment of foreign workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tapah Member of Parliament and MIC deputy president claimed that the upcoming charges stem from a third-party statement linking him to the hiring of foreign workers in 2022.
In a video message shared with the media today, Saravanan stated that the initial statement implicating him was made by an individual who passed away two months ago, after previously filing a Statutory Declaration (SD) to retract the allegations.
“I stress that I have never contacted or known the individual either via phone or short messaging service. Even though the main witness has died, I am still prepared to defend myself and face this charge according to the law,” Saravanan said.
Saravanan added that his legal representation will submit an application to the court tomorrow seeking an expedited trial without any delays.
His confirmation follows a media invitation issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier today regarding a former minister set to face court charges tomorrow morning. The former minister is expected to be charged under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009, which covers offences related to soliciting, receiving, giving, promising, or offering a gratification.
