Ex-Tabung Haji CEO Arrives at Court in MACC Remand Over RCI Report Investigations

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 — A former chief executive officer of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) arrived at the Magistrate’s Court here today to face remand proceedings linked to ongoing investigations into the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on the pilgrimage board.

The suspect, a man in his 60s, arrived at the court complex at 9:35 AM clad in an orange Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remand suit.

The remand application comes on the heels of the declassified TH RCI report, which was published on the official portal of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) on July 29.

The comprehensive RCI report—which scrutinized TH’s operational management and financial decisions between 2014 and 2020—uncovered evidence of suspicious financial transactions, intentional concealment of information, and widespread asset value deterioration.

Among its core findings, the commission recommended conducting forensic audits into past high-risk investment decisions that resulted in severe financial impairment for the institution.

Following the report’s public release, the MACC established a specialized task force to review its findings for potential legal violations involving elements of corruption, embezzlement, document forgery, abuse of power, or money laundering under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA) 2001.
