KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 – Major transport infrastructure upgrades, anchored by the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), have secured Kuala Lumpur a prestigious position on Frommer’s list of “Best Places to Go in 2027”.
Frommer’s Editor-in-Chief Jason Cochran highlighted that the 665-kilometer mega rail project—which connects the Klang Valley to Peninsular Malaysia’s eastern seaboard—dramatically enhances the capital’s appeal for international tourists seeking a blend of urban sophistication and natural excursions.
In a video shared on Frommer’s official Instagram page, Cochran noted that the rail link transforms regional travel from the Integrated Transport Terminal (ITT) Gombak to Kota Bharu, Kelantan, reducing total transit time to roughly four hours.
“The new train line goes from right on the outskirts of KL… and it goes 400 miles to the eastern coastline of the Malay Peninsula,” Cochran explained. “You can get to the very end of that rail line on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula in about four hours now from the outskirts of KL, which is about… the time it takes for you to get a bus, a coach, from KL to Singapore.”
Beyond transport connectivity, Cochran commended Kuala Lumpur’s status as a top-tier Southeast Asian hub, pointing out architectural milestones such as Merdeka 118—the world’s second-tallest skyscraper—alongside the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.
“KL by itself is a fascinating, modern Southeast Asian city where you’re not going to be uncomfortable because they know how to cater to the appraising tourist,” Cochran added.
