KOTA BHARU, Sept 8 — A 25-year-old man with learning disabilities pleaded not guilty in the Lower Syariah Court today to a charge of posing as a woman by wearing women’s clothing in November last year.
Khairul Izwan Sidi Ahmad entered the plea before Syarie Judge Wan Mohd Firdaus W. Ibrahim after the charge was read to him.
According to the charge sheet, Khairul Izwan was accused of wearing a slim-fit T-shirt, women’s underwear, and women’s slippers at the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAHEAIK) headquarters at 2:35 pm on Nov 9, 2025.
The charge was framed under Section 19(1) of the Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019, which provides for a maximum fine of RM3,000, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both upon conviction.
Kelantan Syarie Deputy Prosecutor Syafika Mat Husin requested bail be set at RM1,000 with one surety.
Defense lawyer Muhammad Syarafi Mohd Salleh, representing the accused alongside Mohd Faqqhurudin Mohd Nasir, appealed for a reduced bail of RM500, highlighting his client’s status as a Persons with Disabilities (PwD) cardholder and his responsibility to assist in supporting his family.
Syarie Judge Wan Mohd Firdaus set bail at RM1,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 1 for mention.
