KUCHING, Oct 9 – Police arrested two local men and confiscated 32.73 kilogrammes of Eramin 5 pills valued at RM3.3 million during a targeted operation at the Kuching International Airport arrivals hall on September 28.
Sarawak Acting Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak confirmed the arrests during a press conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Investigations revealed that the drug syndicate sourced the narcotics from Johor Bahru before air-trafficking them to Kuching for local distribution, with the seized quantity capable of supplying up to 163,650 users.
Suspect Backgrounds and Legal Action
Authorities provided details on the syndicate’s operational history and court charges:
- Syndicate Operations: The trafficking syndicate is believed to have been active since August 2026, paying both couriers RM5,000 to transport the illicit shipments.
- Suspect Profiles: The 25-year-old unemployed suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and benzodiazepines and has three prior criminal records, including one drug offence. The 39-year-old suspect, a fisherman, tested negative for drugs and has two prior criminal records.
- Court Charges: Following remand extensions, both suspects were officially charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the Kuching Magistrates’ Court on October 7.
Section 39B carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.
