BATU PAHAT, Oct 9 – The Magistrate’s Court in Batu Pahat has extended the remand order for a 16-year-old schoolboy by an additional six days to facilitate ongoing investigations into the fatal murder of his female classmate in Yong Peng.
Magistrate Aimi Nawwar Mohamad Othman granted the six-day extension on Friday, October 9, 2026, extending the suspect’s detention from Saturday, October 10 through October 15, 2026.
The teenage suspect was previously remanded for six days starting October 4 following the fatal attack at the school premises.
Case Details and Investigation Status
Police continue to gather evidence and complete forensic reports surrounding the tragic incident:
- Victim Identification: The deceased was identified as 16-year-old Form Four student Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal.
- Discovery at Scene: The victim was found unconscious and covered in blood inside a school hall in Yong Peng at approximately 5:50 PM on October 3, 2026, and was pronounced dead shortly after.
- Funeral and Post-Mortem: Following a post-mortem examination at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) in Batu Pahat, Irene Sofiya was laid to rest at the Kampung Parit Arshad Muslim Cemetery.
- Legal Penalties: Police have classified the case as murder, with investigations conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Investigating officers are continuing to interview witnesses, school staff, and family members to establish the motive behind the fatal assault.
