KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 – Bursa Malaysia maintained its upward trajectory through Friday’s mid-day session, supported by selective buying in consumer products, telecommunications, and industrial heavyweights ahead of the afternoon tabling of Budget 2027.

At 12:30 PM on Friday, October 9, 2026, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 6.08 points, or 0.38 per cent, reaching 1,607.09 compared to Thursday’s close of 1,601.01.

After opening 1.93 points higher at 1,602.94, the index fluctuated between an intraday low of 1,600.55 and a high of 1,609.94 during morning trade.

Market Breadth, Trading Volumes, and Analyst Insights

Broader market sentiment turned moderately positive at the midday break:

  • Gainers vs Decliners: Advancers led decliners 478 to 469, with 502 counters unchanged, 1,379 untraded, and 13 suspended.
  • Volume and Turnover: Total market volume reached 2.03 billion units valued at RM1.34 billion.
  • Analyst Commentary: Malacca Securities noted that Budget 2027 remains the central market driver, highlighting that value retailers like 99 Speed Mart Retail stand to benefit if Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) allocations are expanded to boost consumer spending.

Key consumer, tech, and construction counters provided strong support to the composite index:

  • Top Index Drivers: 99 Speed Mart Retail jumped 15 sen to RM3.27, Press Metal Aluminium added seven sen to RM7.19, and CelcomDigi gained five sen to RM2.52. The trio collectively contributed 4.32 points to the FBM KLCI’s morning rise.
  • Other Heavyweights: Sunway and Gamuda advanced seven sen each to RM4.38 and RM5.02, while Axiata rose five sen to RM1.64. On the downside, Petronas Gas lost 38 sen to RM17.42, and Petronas Chemicals fell five sen to RM4.21.
  • Active Trading Counters: Zetrix AI and V.S Industry inched up half a sen each to eight sen and 33.5 sen, respectively. Dagang NeXchange slipped half a sen to 52 sen, Top Glove dropped three sen to 84.5 sen, and XiDeLang traded flat at half a sen.
  • Top Gainers: Technology and plantation stocks posted sharp gains, led by Mi Technovation (up 62 sen to RM6.70), United Plantations (up 52 sen to RM30.92), Malaysian Pacific Industries (up 32 sen to RM43.82), Kuala Lumpur Kepong (up 18 sen to RM20.72), and TMK Chemical (up 16 sen to RM2.77).
  • Top Decliners: Fraser & Neave led losses, dropping 18 sen to RM20.46, followed by Genting Plantations (down 16 sen to RM5.58), Allianz Malaysia (down 12 sen to RM20.04), FCW (down 11 sen to RM1.70), and Negri Sembilan Oil Palms (down 10 sen to RM5.35).

Across broader indices, the FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 114.79 points to 17,651.86, the FBM Emas Index added 52.87 points to 12,082.63, the FBM Top 100 Index gained 53.38 points to 11,858.49, the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 65.50 points to 12,125.33, and the FBM ACE Index rose 30.89 points to 5,625.67.
