BANGI, Aug 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has sent an official letter to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto requesting special attention regarding the Federal Land Development Authority’s (Felda) investment in Indonesian palm oil producer PT Eagle High Plantations Tbk (EHP).
Anwar revealed that the high-level intervention was prompted by the grave threat of financial losses reaching up to RM2.5 billion, stemming from past management decisions, with current expected recoveries potentially dropping to as little as RM200 million.
“This investment (EHP) is subject to court proceedings in Indonesia. I have written to President Prabowo Subianto asking him to look into the matter. If it is not addressed, we could potentially lose RM2.5 billion and recover only RM200 million,” Anwar stated today.
The Prime Minister made the disclosures during a meet-and-greet session with Felda’s senior management and regional managers at Hotel Tenera here today. The event was also attended by Felda Chairman Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir and Director-General Datuk Dr Suzana Idayu Wati Osman.
Court records confirm that Felda has been unable to recover its funds as EHP continues to challenge the matter within the Indonesian judicial system.
Anwar emphasized that disclosing the financial figures directly to ground managers was essential to ensuring that personnel across all administrative levels comprehend the full scale of the structural challenges confronting the agency’s recovery trajectory.
“I want the managers to understand how difficult the recovery will be. This is not a problem caused by the managers. What does a Felda manager in Pahang or Johor have to do with it? But we all have to bear the consequences, and that is the problem. So, they need to understand this,” he said.
“Issues involving investigations, enforcement and the courts are separate matters. But I want the managers to understand the full extent of these problems,” he added.
The Prime Minister urged management at all levels to remain firmly grounded in operational facts and resist political narratives or propaganda that attempt to downplay past governance failures.
Beyond legal and financial recovery efforts, Anwar reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerating basic welfare infrastructure for Felda communities—including advancing allocations for repairing the homes of settlers and managers—rather than waiting for next year’s national budget cycle.
He stressed that the government’s uncompromising focus on governance, integrity, and accountability is aimed not at assigning personal fault, but at protecting public trust and restoring Felda’s standing as a proud national institution.
