Farmer Shot Dead in Banting; Police Detain Suspect Under Murder Probe

SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 – A 52-year-old local farmer was shot dead outside a house in Teluk Bunut, Banting, on Tuesday night. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at the scene following the shooting, which took place between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm.

Speaking at a press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters on Thursday, Shazeli stated, “Police received information about the incident at about 11.15 pm. Investigations revealed that the premises was rented by the victim’s child and was unoccupied at the time.” He added that “the victim is believed to have gone there to check on the house.”

The investigation was initially complicated by the absence of independent eyewitnesses and the fact that no weapon was recovered at the scene. Despite these hurdles, police identified key individuals suspected to be linked to the crime and launched a targeted operation, detaining a local man in his 20s to 30s in the Banting area late Wednesday night.

Regarding the suspect’s status, Shazeli noted, “The man was brought to court today, and a two-day remand order was granted to assist in the investigation.” He emphasized that “the extent of this individual’s involvement, whether as the main suspect or otherwise, is still under scrutiny.” Authorities are actively investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
